The Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and its Conductor Brandon Phillips have joined up again with the Rotary Club of Waterfront to present a fundraising concert. The Gala is in aid of the CPYO’s latest Masidlale initiative at Prestwich School in Green Point (also one of The Waterfront Rotary Club's library beneficiaries) and to enable financially challenged members of the Interact Club at Trafalgar High to attend an environmental camp at Soetwater.

The concert will take place on Sunday, May 20, at 16.30 at the Artscape Theatre.

In keeping with its aims to benefit youth, there will be three young Soloists :
  • Pianist Sulayman Human who will be playing a movement from Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto
  • Flautist Myles Roberts who will be performing the Carmen Fantasie by Bizet
  • Cellist Chris Njapha with an extract from Elgar’s Cello Concerto

Also on the Programme are Allan Stephenson’s Cape Town Overture and the Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich. This concert builds on the success of last year’s Rotary Centennial Concert, with the accent focused on Youth Projects supported by both organizations.
