When he celebrated his 60th birthday earlier this year on April 14 PP Eckart asked family and friends to rather make a donation towards the cost of funding an event he planned to host later in the year for the aged, than buy him birthday gifts.

ROTARIANS subscribe to the belief that one should, whenever possible, place service above self. That this should not only take place inside Rotary, but outside of Rotary activity too, in one's daily life.

Past President (PP) of Rotary Club Windhoek, Eckart von Oehsen again demonstrated his commitment to live by this adage of service above self.

When he celebrated his 60th birthday earlier this year on April 14 PP Eckart asked family and friends to rather make a donation towards the cost of funding an event he planned to host later in the year for the aged, than buy him birthday gifts. The funds collected by PP Eckart in a piggy bank was then used to fund a party on Saturday August 18 for about 60 aged people from Katutura and surrounding suburbs, at the Oponganda Community Centre.

In addition to members of Windhoek Rotaract Club (young Rotarians) Ria and Fritz Becker were on hand to assist Petra and Eckart von Eckart. As seen from the photos accompanying this posting, a fun time was had by all. Well done Eckart for demonstrating just how much joy there is in giving. So much more than in receiving.
