THE DISTRICT 9350 ROTARY FOUNDATION
AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMME

The D9350 Ambassadorial Scholarship selection panel uses these guidelines to select their candidates.
The profile of an ideal Ambassadorial Scholarship candidate from D9350:

  • Possesses excellent leadership skills and potential
  • Understands his/her award obligations, including speeches to Rotary and non-Rotary audiences
  • Has a proven record of success in his/her academics and/or vocation
  • Has a proven record of initiating or enhancing social/community programmes and has demonstrated a personal commitment to community service
  • Is articulate and possesses good proficiency in the study country language
  • Is well-groomed and has a professional appearance
  • Is obliged to participate in an outbound orientation seminar provided by the District in February/March 2012.
  • Is interested in participating in and possibly identifying Rotary service projects while abroad
  • Has well-defined and realistic goals
  • Possesses maturity and seriousness of purpose
  • Is an excellent public speaker, skilled with presentations to both small and large audiences
  • Knows the history, culture, and politics of both his/her home community and study country
  • Is diplomatic and articulate when discussing world affairs and sensitive topics
  • Has concrete ideas as to how he/she will improve international understanding and world peace
  • Has thoroughly researched his/her preferred study institution, including four alternative locations
  • Is interested in a study field that has a direct impact on the humanitarian needs primarily of  Southern African issues (Note that this is a qualifying criterion set by Rotary Foundation – details are in the handbook)
  • Understands and can subscribe to   the Rotary 4 Way Test
  • Is flexible and possesses a good sense of humour and tolerance
  • Must have studied and possess a good knowledge of all aspects of Rotary – with the help of his / her sponsor Rotary Club.
  • Is sincere about maintaining a lifelong relationship with Rotary after his/her scholarship period

Please note that Rotary Foundation specifically excludes the dependants and grandchildren of Rotarians.
