THE DISTRICT 9350 ROTARY FOUNDATION
AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMME

[ Home ] [ Timeline for selection process] [ Selection Guidelines] [ Current Scholars ]

To select students for :

  • Northern Hemisphere year of academic study: August 2012 – July 2013 or
  •  Southern Hemisphere year of academic study: January 2013 – December 2013

  • January to July 2011:
    • Candidates can download information off the Rotary Foundation website,  do appropriate research and prepare application forms. Candidates also need to find a local Rotary Club to interview them and to endorse the application form.  List of D9350 Clubs: http://www.rotary9350.co.za/Clubs/default.asp
    • Clubs: Rotary Clubs and Rotarians should also use this time frame to recommend a likely candidate of their acquaintance who, after being interviewed by their Club, may be sent on to be interviewed by the District committee. Please remember that direct family members do not qualify for this and other Rotary Foundation scholarships.

  • 17 July 2011:
    • Final date for applications to be received by the sponsoring Club. (Each Club selects its own deadline. We suggest it be at least 2 weeks before the district deadline to allow the District selection committee the opportunity to review applications).
    • What is required at the time of the Club Interview?
    • 1 completed hard copy of application forms with all supporting documents. Club interviewing panel should use the criteria in the profile of the ideal candidate (found below) as the guideline in endorsing a candidate.
    • If the applicant meets club approval, then a hard copy needs to be: either hand delivered or posted by registered mail/couriered to: Lynn Le Grange, Die Spruit No. 4, Bain Street, Wellington 7655 / P. O. Box 908, Wellington, 7654  AND
    • An electronic copy of the candidate’s application forms and essays – emailed, preferably in .pdf format to legrangel@cput.ac.za   Supporting documents such as copies of IDs, certificates and academic transcripts are not required electronically.
(Make and keep one complete copy of your whole application for your own future use.)

  • August 5th 2010:
    • All Club-endorsed applications need to have been received by the selection committee. PLEASE NOTE: NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED

  • August 14th 2011:
    • District interviews of selected finalists will be held in Cape Town

  • August 22nd 2011:
    • All applicants notified of outcome of interviews

  • Early December 2011:
    • Applicants receive notification of outcome from Rotary Foundation.
  • February/March 2012:
    • Orientation for Ambassadorial Scholars

Please note:

It must be strongly emphasised that applicants must have access to additional money as the $27 000  scholarship award is often inadequate for students to pay all living expenses in European or North American countries after academic expenses and airfares have been paid.

Applicants and / or their sponsoring Rotary Clubs must finance their transport to and from the final District interview.
