Mike was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in ] 944. His primary school education was at Hillside School and CBC, and secondary schooling at Milton High School. He played rugby (1 st Team), cricket and tennis. In his last two years at school he was a prefect. After completing his schooling having passed his "A" and "S" Levels he studied at the University of Birmingham (UK) where he graduated in 1966 with a BSc (Hons) Electronic Engineering degree.
He worked in London for 3 years after leaving university, before he and his first wife immigrated to South Africa in 1969 and settled in Cape Town. Mike was fortunate to get a management position in the UK and has held management positions ever since. He has worked in the construction, builder's merchants, white goods distribution, electronics and IT distribution industries. Since 1996 he has managed the Western Cape and Africa Regions for Axiz (Pty) Ltd who are one of the largest IT distributors in South Africa.
In 1997 he married Eve, who was born in Salisbury, now Harare. She was not fond of school and left school after writing her "O" Levels at Lord Malvern High School. Having no idea what she wanted to do she took a job as a junior costing clerk, which lead her into the bookkeeping field. She has been a senior bookkeeper for many years. She lived through the period of the bush war in Zimbabwe. Her first husband was in the BSA Police. When Zimbabwe became independent she immigrated with her first husband and daughters to South Africa. She has lived in Polokwane, Mafikeng and since 1995 in Cape Town.
Mike has a son and a daughter who live with their respective families in Zug in Switzerland. He has three grandchildren. Eve has four daughters, of whom three live in the UK and one lives in Johannesburg. She has five grandchildren.
The late Tony Goldfinch introduced Mike to the Rotary Club of Signal Hill and he was inducted in 1985, He left Rotary in 1991 for work related reasons. In 1994 he was inducted a second time. He was President of Signal Hill in 1997/8, was District Governor's Representative in 1998/9 and served as an Assistant Governor in 2004/5. Signal Hill Rotary Club awarded him a Paul Harris in 1998 and with Sapphire in 2001. He was Chairman on the District Membership Committee in 1998/9.
Mike is honoured to be District Governor in 2009/10.
