THE FOUNDATION OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

Changes to the SHARE System
July 2002

Changes to the SHARE Process that Will Affect the 2005-06 Program Year

  • For the 2002-03 Rotary year, the 35-page SHARE allocation workbook will be sent to the district leadership in each district. The district must submit its allocation worksheet to The Rotary Foundation by 1 March 2003.

  • For the 2003-04 Rotary year, districts will receive a SHARE mailing in January 2004, notifying them of the District Designated Funds (DDF) available for program year 2005-06. The mailing will be 10 pages or less and will include a worksheet to track DDF spending.

  • Starting in 2003-04, districts will no longer be required to submit an allocation worksheet.

  • DDF accounts will no longer be divided into Humanitarian, Educational, Program Enhancement and Donation categories. Rather, DDF deductions will be made from the total available DDF balance, as applications are approved by The Rotary Foundation or donations are made.

  • New requirements will be:

    a. Deductions for a donation will be made when the district notifies the Foundation of the donation. All other deductions will be made when the grant or scholarship has been approved.

    b. The deadline for districts to make donations of scholarships to other districts will be 1 March 2004 (for students that will study during the 2005-06 Rotary year).

    c. Other donations can be made at any time from 1 March 2004 through 30 June 2006 for use of funds in the 2005-06 Rotary year.

    d. The deadline for scholarship applications will be 1 October 2004 for funds that will be used in 2005-06. (1 October annually for scholarships in the following Rotary year).

    e. The deadline for district Simplified Grant requests will be 31 March 2005 for funds to be used in 2005-06. (31 March annually for funds to be used in the following Rotary year.)

    f. Any remaining DDF for 2005-06 can be used by the district for Trustee-approved programs. Available DDF not used in 2005-06 will roll forward for use in 2006-07.

    g. Starting in 2003-04, only the current District Rotary Foundation Committee Chairperson will authorize the use of DDF.

Beginning with the program year 2006-07, the DDF split will become 50 DDF/50WF. This will affect contributions collected in 2003-04.
