Close to 200 excited young minds were keen to share their ideas to make a difference in their communities at the recent Rotary Interact Training workshop hosted at SACS Junior School.
During the course of the fun-filled knowledge sharing day, the Interactors from 28 Rotary Interact Clubs engaged with one another to share ideas on how to make a difference in their communities.
There were a plethora of topics shared including an inspiring motivational talk by Stacey Rehbock about their 12 x 12 Challenge; this year they have committed to run a half a marathon a month for a year to raise awareness and funds for a variety of causes. They shared their experiences to date, the projects they have already made a difference in, as well as the fun they are having in serving others. This goes to show that funds can be raised through a variety of fun and different ways; what better way to link it to a hobby and something you enjoy doing.
To add and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit in the youngsters, Lydia Zingoni from SA Teen Entrepreneur also presented exciting opportunities for the Interactors to learn more about the all-important world of entrepreneurship and how to incorporate these skills in their own clubs and school.
Rotary District Governor, Geraldine Nicol said, “It’s all about collaboration. Partnership is a key theme for the district and it is great to see so many young minds sharing in the spirit of Rotary and working together to make a positive contribution in the communities that we live in.”
Jenny Howard, District Chair for Rotary’s Youth Services added, “We are very pleased with the success of the day. What worked particularly well was the Rotaractors hosting a Hall of Fellowship during the lunch break. Here each part of the Rotary family displayed some of the projects they are involved with, again sharing ideas that can easily be duplicated and shared across the district’s different clubs.”
Other topics discussed included the Shelter Box and Sleeping Bag project, promoting peace, fighting disease and providing clean water.
The fun-filled knowledge sharing session was hosted by the Rotary Club of Wynberg and was represented by 28 Interact-, 18 Rotary- and seven Rotaract Clubs from across the Province.
